The new Indian Rupee symbol has been finalised by the Indian government, but it will take some time to appear on new keyboards. But now you can type the new Indian Rupee symbol as a character due to a new font developed by Foradian. You can type the Indian Rupee symbol in Microsoft Word and in Orkut, Facebook, Twitter profiles etc.
How to download and use the Rupee symbol:
1. Download the font “Rupee_Foradian.ttf”
Click here to download: Rupee_Foradian.ttf (59 KB)
2. Copy this downloaded file to C:\Windows\Fonts folder in your PC.
3. In your word processor, e.g. Microsoft Word, type the character ` (the key just above “tab” button on your keyboard). Select it and apply the ‘Rupee Foradian’ font from the drop down list of fonts in Word (for e.g., you might be using ‘Times New Roman’ font. Change this to ‘Rupee Foradian’). The Rupee symbol will now be displayed on your page and can also be printed. Remember to change your font back to Times New Roman to continue typing the rest of your Word document.
However, please note the limitation is that the “Rupee_Foradian.ttf” font is necessary to view the currency symbol. This symbol cannot be universally used until it is encoded into the Unicode font by default.
